The Journey of Al-Itqan Academy
Shaykh Daud Dlongolo, originally from South Africa, embarked on his spiritual and academic journey at an early age. By 18, he had completed the memorization of the Qur’an (Hifz) following his high school graduation. He subsequently pursued advanced studies in Arabic and Shariah in Madinah and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from a renowned institution in South Africa.
Shaykh Daud Dlongolo is a well-rounded Islamic scholar, having received his formal training from both Madinah University and institutions in South Africa. He holds numerous Ijazas, including the Riwayah of Asim from Shatibiyyah, and is currently expanding his expertise in other Quranic recitations. His scholarly credentials also encompass Ijazas in Islamic theology, including Tafseer, Hadith, Fiqh, Aqeedah, and more. In addition to his Islamic studies, Shaykh Daud is a qualified counselor and therapist, holding formal qualifications in counseling and community services.
In his early twenties, Shaykh Daud was appointed as an Imam, initiating his career as a spiritual leader and Da’ee. He established a Hifz school in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where he mentored numerous students, many of whom successfully completed their Qur’anic memorization under his guidance. Additionally, Shaykh Daud has provided extensive instruction in the sciences of Hadith and Quranic exegesis across South Africa.
In 2014, Shaykh Daud migrated to Australia as a Minister of Religion. He served as an Imam in the Northern Territory for two years before relocating to Melbourne, where he continued his role as an Imam and Islamic school teacher.
Currently, Shaykh Daud is the founder of Al-Itqan Academy and director of Al-Itqan community centre in Narre Warren, Melbourne. The Academy functions as an Islamic educational and community center, offering a wide range of services to the local community. Additionally, Shaykh Daud provides professional counseling services, integrating Islamic therapy to cater to the spiritual and psychological needs of the public. He is also a respected member of key Islamic bodies in Australia, including the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) and the Board of Imams Victoria (BOIMV).
